Happy Spring! We hope you are enjoying the brighter days and lighter evenings as much as we are. Along with the wildflowers, much has been blossoming at Zero Breast Cancer.
As Spring began, our Resilient Me Health & Wellness pilot launched, too. We have 8 clients who currently have or have had breast cancer participating in weekly 1:1 personalized sessions for 10 weeks. It’s wonderful to see our clients improving their health and wellness, thanks to people like you who support our mission with a generous donation. We plan to have another round of clients starting in June.
We’ve been hard at work writing grants for Resilient Me and received our first from To Celebrate Life to serve people in the San Francisco Bay Area! We’ve also applied to Safeway Foundation to serve people across Northern California – please consider adding a donation when you checkout this month to support our program.
This March also saw the release of our Healthy Futures kids’ activity book in Spanish. Now Girl Scouts, afterschool/summer programs, and caregivers can engage in healthy activities with Spanish-speaking kids ages 5-8 to help them move more, eat healthy, get enough sleep, and manage stress. After they complete activities in each of these areas, they are mailed a zipper pull or patch in acknowledgement of their participation. Since Healthy Futures was developed in English in January 2023, 4,440 kids have completed it across the USA, including 646 who have done so in 2024 already!
Last but certainly not least, we have a webinar coming up as part of our Pathways Breast Cancer Survivorship series. “Genetics and Breast Cancer: Learnings From the Pathways Study and Clinical Practice” will take place April 25, 2024, at 11 am PT/2 pm ET. Zero Breast Cancer’s Lianna Hartmour, MA, will moderate, while Christine Ambrosone, PhD (Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center) will inform about the environment and breast cancer, and Leslie Manace Brenman, MD, MPhil (Kaiser Permanente) will share about clinical practice. After the presentations, Pathways Study Principal Investigator Larry Kushi, ScD (Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research) will join the speakers for questions. We hope to see you there!
