Zero Breast Cancer (ZBC) promotes breast cancer risk reduction through translation of scientific research and evidence-based recommendations that support health and wellness at key stages of life. We envision a world with zero breast cancer. We offer programs in multigenerational breast cancer risk reduction, survivorship, and health and wellness coaching.
ZBC is a project of the Collaborative for Health and Environment (CHE). After operating as an independent nonprofit (501c3) from 1996-2024 (originally as Marin Breast Cancer Watch), ZBC transitioned into a project of CHE in the summer of 2024 in order to strengthen our work. CHE has been champion of cancer prevention and other forms of environmental health for more than 20 years under the umbrella of Commonweal, a 46-year old health and wellness nonprofit, also based in Marin County, CA. CHE is led by Kristin Schafer, who brings over three decades of experience in promoting environmental health and justice and enthusiastically supports ZBC’s mission.
Under CHE, ZBC maintains continuity in all of its programs, including online resources, coaching, prevention, and survivorship support. Under this new arrangement, Zero Breast Cancer Program & Communications Director Lianna Hartmour continues to lead ZBCs work as a member of the CHE team, working closely with Kristin.
