CAROL J. KRONENWETTER, PHD
Clinical Health Psychologist

As a psychologist who survived breast cancer while raising two young children, Dr. Carol Kronenwetter found a dearth of available support services to help women cope with breast cancer. This experience informed her life’s work. She was nominated for this year's Honor Thy Healer award by many women who have experienced her healing partnership, her advocacy for their needs, and her guidance through the complex challenges presented by breast cancer. For nearly ten years she has been the staff psychologist at the Notkin Family Breast Cancer Recovery Program at California Pacific Medical Center. In this capacity she counsels individuals and facilitates two support groups, one for women with Stages 1-3 breast cancer and another for those with advanced disease.

Dr. Kronenwetter graduated with honors from the University of Arizona with Bachelor Degrees in Psychology and Biology. She completed both her Master and Doctorate Degrees in Clinical Psychology at Pennsylvania State University. While a clinical intern at UCSF Mt. Zion Hospital she served as a consultant to the oncology service and has continued to consult with oncology professionals and cancer care programs throughout the Bay Area. She was Co-Principal Investigator with Dr. David Spiegel in the groundbreaking Stanford University study on the effects of cancer support groups. She has published professionally and presented talks and courses on cancer and healing for women with breast cancer and also on issues facing younger women with breast cancer.

Carol lives with her husband in Mill Valley where she maintains a private psychology practice and a thriving garden. She is cherished and celebrated for her wisdom and support and for the healing partnerships that she has nurtured throughout her career.
