ROGER GROSSMAN
Publisher, Marin Independent Journal

When he became publisher of the Marin Independent Journal in October of 2000, Roger Grossman brought more than thirty-five years of marketing and publishing experience to the organization. He began his newspaper career as a copy boy with the Seattle Post lntelligencer, a Hearst-owned morning daily paper, while attending Seattle University. Roger then rose to the position of display advertising sales manager before leaving to join the Seattle radio station KBRD as general sales manager.

Since leaving his hometown of Seattle, Roger has served as advertising director of the Ann Arbor News, general manager and publisher of the Sentinel Publishing Co. in San Diego, and publisher of the Coronado Journal. He has been with ANG Newspapers, the parent owner of the Marin Independent Journal, for twelve years. He has served in a variety of roles with ANG including: publisher of the Tri-Valley Herald; publisher of the Oakland Tribune; vice president of administration, vice president of advertising, and publisher of the San Mateo County Times.

Roger is a board member of The North Bay Council, United Way of the Bay Area, United Way of Marin, Marin Ballet, Friends of Marin Center, Novato Chamber of Commerce, the Mt. Burdell Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, School to Career Partnership, and Chairman of Special Olympics, Northern California and Nevada. A former member of the San Mateo Rotary Club, Roger is a Paul Harris Fellow.
