ZBC stands with BLACK LIVES MATTER
Dear ZBC Community,
The events of the past few weeks have been heartbreaking. We have seen yet more systemic, racist violence adding George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery to the long list of black lives taken, which has caused grief, anger, and public action in the form of national - and even global - protest.
I, my colleagues, and the Board of Directors at Zero Breast Cancer absolutely stand with Black Lives Matter. We denounce racism in all its forms. We join forces with all affected by this travesty in our society to declare that this must stop. And we want to be part of the solution.
We are listening to the many black voices speaking out at this time and know that we must also take action as a breast cancer organization. Black women are more likely to die from breast cancer than any other racial/ethnic group. Racism impacts breast cancer risk. We are exploring ways we can better address racism in our work and will be sharing the steps we will take in our next newsletter. If you have any suggestions, I would be grateful if you would reach out to me at
Please follow the links below for resources and to connect with organizations that are working to dismantle racism in our society. No one is born to hate, but we must face that racism is implicit in our society. We, personally and professionally, need to actively interrogate it in ourselves and take informed action in ways guided by black activists.
In solidarity,
Genevieve Gandal
