YSABEL DURON
Founder and Executive Director, Latinas Contra Cancer

A renowned Bay Area broadcast journalist and civic leader, Ysabel Duron is the founder and Executive Director of Latinas Contra Cancer (LCC), a San Jose-based non-profit that provides education and support to low-income Spanish-speaking women and men.

Ysabel Duron, a cancer survivor herself, has responded to a crucial need for cancer information and support in the Hispanic community. She has worked tirelessly to bridge the cancer information gap by providing culturally competent education outreach and support to Latina women.

An award-winning journalist in television news broadcasting, Ysabel Duron has been the long-standing senior anchor of KRON 4 TV Weekend Morning News in San Francisco. She lends her voice and cultural expertise to cancer organizations, including the Lance Armstrong Foundation's Latino Initiatives and the National Latina Breast Cancer Advisory Council of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Ms. Duron is the Chair of the National Latino Cancer Summit which will be held at UCSF Mission Bay campus in July 2008.This summit will convene cancer researchers, community activists, health policy experts and cancer survivors to bring attention to the issue of cancer and cancer care disparities among Latinos in the US.
