Dipsea Hike/Run Lite 2011
In Honor of Annie Fox and Jerry Leith

About This Event

ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED -
But you can still join us to hike or run by registering at the park on Saturday!

Please arrive at Old Mill Park as close to 8 am as possible to register to participate! Parking in the area is limited, so an early arrival will save time. We will start the hike/run at 9:00 AM, featuring the lead runner as Dipsea winner Reilly Johnson.

Researchers have found that physical activity throughout one's life can reduce breast cancer risk. The Dipsea Hike/Run Lite is a wonderful way to spend the morning doing something healthy with your friends and family -- in a beautiful environment -- while supporting one of the leading community breast cancer research organizations in the Bay Area. It is a noncompetitive, all-ages event that takes place on a 6-mile course including the famous Dipsea steps and glorious views of Mount Tamalpais. With State parks on the chopping block, this event is a wonderful opportunity to appreciate this outstanding natural resource. After completing the course, Hike/Run participants will enjoy a free light lunch, mini-massages and jazz at Old Mill Park. Prizes will be awarded recognizing first runners & hikers in, top fundraisers and other categories.

This year the event is held in honor of late event co-founders Annie Fox and Jerry Leith. Annie was an avid trail runner and breast cancer advocate who died of breast cancer at the age of 35. In her last days, she focused her energy on bringing the first Dipsea Hike/Run Lite to fruition. Jerry was a dedicated Tamalpa Runner who has been part of the event from the very beginning. As co-founder and an exuberant advocate of ZBC's Dipsea Hike/Run Lite, he helped the organization raise hundreds of thousands of dollars. He recently died of cancer at the age of 75.

Zero Breast Cancer is a Marin County nonprofit organization dedicated to finding the causes of breast cancer through community participation in the research process. We focus on identifying environmental factors and the role they play in the development of breast cancer at all stages of life and across generations. ZBC is the only organization dedicated to finding out why women in Marin and the Bay Area are at higher risk for breast cancer and is the only organization with a main focus on prevention of breast cancer through research and education. Our goal is the elimination of the disease. All proceeds from the 9th annual Dipsea Hike/Run Lite benefit the research, education and community outreach programs of Zero Breast Cancer.
